How to make the " Bella Flower " Headband

bella-headband   Contributor post by Cassie Hey guys! It's Cassie here from CuppyCake GumDrop Boutique & More. Today we are going to be showing you how to make an adorable " Bella Flower " Headband. This is a brand new flower that is in the "NOW" within the bow maker world. The " Bella Flower " can be tweaked to your liking in just about a million ways. If you have ribbon you can create the " Bella Flower ". This flower is originally created using 1.5" only, however, I like to spice things up and add 1.5" & 7/8" ribbon to make it different. The original tutorial was shared in a secret group on facebook {{ Ivy Tangs House of Hairbows }}. What is the " Bella Flower " ? - I personally named this the Bella Flower after a model who does a lot of work for CCGDB so I decided it was a perfect fit. She mixes it up with everything she models and this flower can be created in so many different ways. So let's get started. IMG_4304IMG_4300   How adorable is that flower!?!!? * My little Aria decided she wanted the headband once I was done lol so excuse the cutting board background :)) Now let's get started by gathering our supplies :) Supplies Needed for the " Bella Flower " 1.5" ribbon 7/8" ribbon Hotglue/Gun Lighter Feather Pad {{ 3.5" fan felt pad }} 1/8" skinny elastic 3/8" ribbon Scissors Needle/thread CLIPS {{ unlined about at least 2 }} Felt {{ optional }} So let's get started NOW   Step 1: Gather those supplies IMG_4220   Step 2: Time to cut our pieces :) - Take your 1.5" ribbon and cut 9, 4" pieces IMG_4221 Step 3: Get your 7/8" ribbon and cut 9, 3" pieces IMG_4222   Step 4: I like to lay all my pieces together so I know where they are and to make sure I have all I need. IMG_4223 Step 5: Grab 1 set of 1.5" and 7/8" ribbon. IMG_4224 Step 6: Put 7/8" ribbon off to the side. Take your 1.5" ribbon, heat seal the ends. IMG_4225 Step 7: Flip 1.5" ribbon over, fold right end down at an angle. IMG_4226IMG_4227 Step 7b: Now flip that back over to the back side of the left side of the ribbon. IMG_4228IMG_4229 Step 7c: Flip over to see the front IMG_4231   Step 7d: Now take a clip and clip the 1.5" ribbon petal across the bottom and set aside. IMG_4232   Step 8: Do Steps 5- 7c for the 7/8" ribbon piece. IMG_4233IMG_4234IMG_4235IMG_4236   Step 9: Ready to sew them together so grab your needle and thread and let's get ready! - Make sure your thread has a knot on the end :) IMG_4237 Step 10: Lay your 7/8" on top of the 1.5" petal. IMG_4238   Step 11: Pick up the layered petal and begin to sew. IMG_4239 Step 11b: Place the needle in the bottom petal {{ 1.5" }} with the needle going out the bottom. IMG_4240IMG_4241 Step 11c: Pull needle and thread through. Knot should be at the top of the petal.   Step 11d: Take needle and push it through the edge of the 7/8" ribbon. Needle comes through the top. IMG_4243 Step 11e: Push the needle through the other side of the 7/8" ribbon edge. Needle goes through the bottom. IMG_4245 IMG_4246   Step 11e: Push the needle back through the edge of the 1.5" petal. IMG_4247   Step 11f: Pull thread to crease the petal. IMG_4248IMG_4249 Step 11g: Now you have 1 petal on your thread. IMG_4250   Step 12: Repeat steps 5-11 for the 2 more sets of petals. You will end with 3 petals at this point. IMG_4251IMG_4252 Step 13: Cut your thread about 3-4" from your flower petal. IMG_4253 Step 13b: Make a knot {{ about 6 of them lol }} IMG_4254   Step 13c: Cut access thread off IMG_4255   Now you have 1 set of petals completed. IMG_4256   Step 14: Follow Steps 5- 13 for the second layer IMG_4257 Step 15: Follow Steps 5- 13 again for the third layer IMG_4258 Step 16: Get your feather pad out and get ready to assemble the flower IMG_4259 Step 17: Apply a generous amount of hotglue at the top of the feather pad IMG_4260 Step 18: Add your first layer of petals on top of the hotglue. Hold until firmly secured to feather pad. IMG_4261 Step 19: Apply a generous amount of hotglue under the petal and to the end where we sewn the petals pieces together. IMG_4262 Step 20: Add your second layer of petals on the hotglue. Hold until firmly secured to the feather pad. IMG_4263 Step 21: Apply a generous amount of hotlgue under the petal and to the end where we sewn the petals together. IMG_4264 Step 22: Add your third layer of petals on top of the hotglue. Apply firm pressure until secured. IMG_4265   Step 23: Now we need to add the bow at the bottom :)) Supplies Needed are: 1.5" ribbon 7/8" ribbon 3/8" ribbon hotglue CLIPS {{ unlined }} - Cut 1.5" ribbon about 7" long. Heat seal ends. IMG_4266 - Roll into a circle IMG_4267   - Press the center down IMG_4268 - Fold 1 side of the center in downwards IMG_4269 - Fold the other side of the center  down IMG_4270 - Apply hotglue to the center IMG_4271 - Press firm until secured then flip bow over IMG_4272 - Apply hotlgue in between the creases on each side IMG_4273   - Press firm until secured then clip it and set aside IMG_4274   - Now take a piece of 7/8" ribbon about 6.5-7" long IMG_4275   - Fold it in half creasing the center IMG_4276 - Fold the center of the crease in on one side downward IMG_4277   - Fold the center of the other side in IMG_4278   - Apply hotglue to the center IMG_4279   - Flip over and apply hotglue to the insides of the crease IMG_4280 - Add a drop of hotglue to the center of the bow IMG_4281IMG_4282   - Add to the tuxedo bow at the bottom center IMG_4283   - Take your 3/8" heat seal the end and add hotglue to the end. IMG_4284   - Attach to the back of the bow IMG_4285 - Wrap around the center of the bow til you reach the back, cut ribbon, heat seal and apply hotglue to secure it IMG_4286IMG_4287IMG_4288IMG_4289 - Now you are ready to trim the ends of your 7/8" ribbon and heat seal I cut mine at an angle but this is your choice IMG_4290   - Apply hotglue to the end of the flower and attache the bow to the flower IMG_4291IMG_4292   We love headbands here in my home so we do a lot of them, at this point you can attach it to a lined clip or a headband. We decided to go with skinny elastic for our headband hardware :))   Supplies needed: Skinny Elastic Ribbon Scraps/Felt Hotglue Lighter Scissors -- Cut your skinny elastic to desired length, heat seal the ends and hot glue together. In my home, we all enjoy being able to wear them so I cut mine at 16" long so my 2,5 year olds PLUS myself can wear them :) IMG_4293IMG_4294IMG_4295   -- Attach the headband to the back of the feather pad. Then, take scrap ribbon/felt if handy and cover up the spot where the ends of the skinny elastic are hotglued. IMG_4296IMG_4297   * Please Note: Sometimes you may have to add a piece of felt or corresponding ribbon to the bottom where the bow is to help secure it more as you can see I have done in the last picture. :)) At this point, it is your choice if you want to add some bling or embellishments. That choice is all yours. Go crazy and enjoy it! IMG_4298IMG_4299IMG_4300IMG_4304   ****** The " Bella Flower " Can be changed to be smaller or bigger, just play around with the sizing and most importantly HAVE FUN! <3 Thanks for joining me today for this wonderful tutorial. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have.
